WELCOME TO GRIFFIN!

Hello Students:

I hope your first week in Middle school went well. you already know that middle school is very different from elementary school, and there are many things to get used to like the class change and the long school day, but I know you will do great. One of the most important things to learn in middle school is the importance of being organized, especially with your different classes, but remember that we, your teachers are here to help you!

As we get off to a great year, I would like to welcome you to my ESOL class, and to wish you a very successfull 6th grade year with us here at Griffin Middle School. I am so glad you are here!

Love,

Ms Etta

WEEKLY JOURNAL-Have a Great Summer!

Dear Students:

CONGRATULATIONS, We all made it to the end of our 2007-2008 school year! This is our last blog entry as a class, and I just want to use this space to tell you all how PROUD I am of you for all your hard work throughout the school year. I have really really enjoyed teaching you and learning from you. Most of you came to school everyday,  did your best and were on your best behavior while in school, and have been successful.  So, most of you made it easy for me, and I appreciate you and your efforts!

This school year is now over and you all deserve some fun, making memories with your family during the long Summer holiday. However, please do not forget all you learned in sixth grade, you will need that in the seventh grade and for the rest of your life! Reading books from your Summer list is a very good way to keep you from forgetting, so keep reading!

The next school year starts on August 14th, and I hope to see you then. I will miss you all, but have fun and stay safe!

Hasta Luego!

Love,

Ms. Etta

For  your blog entry this week, share your most memorable or favorite part of what we have read in ESPERANZA RISING so far, and why.

WEEKLY JOURNAL- ESOL Field trip

Hi students:

I had a lot of fun yesterday on our fieldtrip to the FERNBANK MUSEUM. As you know, the filedtrip was a reward  for your good attendance record, so you see how being in school pays off in more ways than one? - You learn more and you get a reward too!

Click on the x

I enjoyed looking around the museum, watching the movie about the DOLPHINS, and the soccer game afterwards! I learned a few things too! For example, I did not know that dolphins are the most intelligent animals on earth, or that they have feelings and emotions!

So, what about you? What was the best part of the trip for you and why? Complete this in a paragraph or more.

I know you are all working very hard on your final project, and I look forward to your presentation in class.

Love,

Ms Etta

WEEKLY JOURNAL- THE C.R.C.T. IS OVER!

Hello, My dear Students:

How are you doing? I hope you are all well and working hard as usual- remember the CRCT may be over, but school is still in session, and we've still got work to do: we have to finish reading ESPERANZA RISING, prepare for your finals and get you ready for your next grade.

Anyhow, as you know, we took a long break away from "blogging" to concentrate on our CRCT, and I think you all did your best on the test, but what do YOU think? What do you think of the test and how do you think you did? If you could, what part of the test would you change and why?

Share your thoughts with us in at least one paragraph (five sentences).

See you in class,

love,

Ms. Etta

WEEKLY JOURNAL-My Spring Break

Hello Class:

I know you are all ready for the Spring break- We all know that we need a break from time to time so that we can all return to school refreshed and ready to work.

However, do not forget that we only have a couple of days before the CRCT so do not spend all your time sleeping and playing, we have to prepare for the test even from home. So for your blog entry Today, share five things you should, and will do this spring break to help you prepare for the CRCT.

Also find time to go to www.georgiaoas.org to practice. Remember to use your login information and the password you used in class, and then practice the teacher assigned tests so that I can recieve your test scores.

Have a GREAT SPRING BREAK, stay safe, and see you on April 14th!

Love,

Ms. Etta

WEEKLY JOURNAL-Causes and Effects of Smoking

Dear Students:

In class this week, we have been learning about the Cause and Effect Organizational structure and using Signal Words (since, because, therefore, consequently, if, so that, etc.) to talk or write about Causes and Effects. You also watched a video about the causes and effects of Tobacco, therefore your blog assignment this week is...

If you could talk to your classmates about the effects of tobacco, what would you say? Write a short script of your speech- (what you would say)

                                                                          Healthy lung and smoker's lung

Have a GREAT weekend and see you on Monday.

Love, Ms. Etta

P/S I hope you all had good grades on your report card!

WEEKLY JOURNAL- Books you have read so far!

Hello class,

I hope you had a great week, I also hope that you attended all your tutoring classes this week!  Remember, we (your teachers) are all here to help you anyway we can, and we need you to do your best as well.

As we all know, we are supposed to read at least 25 books this school year. The last time I counted, many of you had read quite a few books, so for your blog assignment...

1. Post the number of books you have read so far

2. List some of the titles you have read and

3. Write a short summary of the last book you read (not Nerd Landia)

FYI- The new book title for our Mid-Week Reading is ESPERANZA RISING, I hope you enjoy it as much as you enjoyed NERD LANDIA!

Have a GREAT weekend!

Love,

Ms. Etta
