7th Grade Social Studies: Asia and
Africa
World Studies
Mr. Rhoades
2009-2010
Anticipated Schedule:
Student Expectations:
1) Students will only be issued books except for homework or if requested by parents. This greatly reduces lost and damage to books. The replacement fee for a book is $44.95 and for a CD is $49.50.
2) If a student is absent, it is his/her responsibility to collect missing assignments. All daily work due during an absence must be completed within three days of returning. Work assigned prior to a student’s absence must be turned in no later than one day after his/her return. All tests, quizzes, and in-class projects must be completed within five days of student return or each assignment can only be scored as a re-take opportunity with a maximum score of 80%. (**see next page**)
3) Each student is expected to keep an organized binder or notebook for the class. A Table of Contents will be provided for each unit and students should make time throughout the week to update the binder or notebook. At the completion of each unit, the binder or notebook will be checked for thorough completion and graded. Parents are expected to provide the binder unless otherwise arranged with the teacher.
4) Students will be issued an agenda and must bring it with them to class daily. *************
5) Students are expected to have a pen/pencil and writing paper every day. Most of the other supplies will be supplied.
Students and parents should expect to achieve great things. If the student shows up for class, does their work, studies for tests, behaves, and participates in class, they should do well. We want them to do well!
Grading Scale:
A = 100-90 B = 89-80 C = 79-75 D = 74-70 F = 69 and below
Student Assessment:
Summative Assessments: 40% (Examples are tests and projects)
Formative Assessments: 30% (Examples are quizzes, daily projects, group presentations)
Homework/Classwork: 20% (Grade based upon accuracy and thorough completion)
Participation: 10% (Grade based upon completion of assignment)
** To assist students in learning the standards required for this course, each will be given the opportunity to re-do formative assessments when a student scores less than an 80%. The maximum re-take score allowed will be an 80%. It is the student’s responsibility to follow up with the teacher for additional help and to schedule a re-take. Retakes are given during class or during homeroom. Students must schedule a time before class and will not be allowed to retest during the ninth week of any nine-week grading period. Retakes are only allowed during the current grading period. Once nine-week grades have been submitted, an assignment retake is no longer possible.*
