Week of October 18-22, 2010

8th Grade: Students began the American Revolution unit and have been discussing the causes of war and Georgia's role in the war.  Students will write several journal responses, take notes on the causes of war, view several movie clips, and will participate in the Boston Massacre: Murder or Self-Defense? Activity. Also, students will also discuss the first battles of the American Revolution and will begin the Revolutions IRA.

7th Grade: Students began the East Asia unit and have been locating and identifying the countries in East Asia.  They also learned about the specific geography, cultures, and history of the Philippines, Vietnam, South Korea, and North Korea.  Students will also complete several journal entries. Students will view movie clips on East Asia's geography. Also, students will discuss the Korean War IRA and will begin the IRA next week.

6th Grade: Students continued with history of Europe unit and have been learning about the Explorers of the 1500s-1700s, with a focus on Henry the Navigator. Students also learned about the Enlightenment. Students collaborated on the Explorers Hall of Fame or Shame IRA. Presentations of the IRA will be made on Thursday and Friday.        

Week of October 11-15, 2010

8th Grade: Students will receive their 2nd book on the Colonial and American Revolution periods. They are to continue to read their novels nightly. Also, students will finish discussing Exploration and Colonization, with a special focus on the Social Classes of Colonial Georgia. Students will also finish their review sheet and we will go over the answers in class. Students will take the Exploration and Colonization test on Thursday (Blue) and Friday (Silver).

7th Grade: Students will be finishing up the History of the Middle East unit. We will discuss the Middle East during the 20th century, with a focus on 9/11, Al Qaeda, and the US Interests in Afghanistan and Iraq.  Also, students will finish the review sheet on the History of the Middle East and will take the History of the Middle East Test on Thursday (Blue) and Friday (Silver).

6th Grade: Students will begin the History of Europe unit and will focus on the Middle Ages, Exploration, Renaissance, and the Enlightenment this week. Also, students will receive their 2nd Europe historical fiction novel, which should be read by November 3 (Silver) and November 4 (Blue).  Students will also complete several journal responses this week. 

 

Week of October 4-8, 2010

8th Grade: All eighth grade classes will be continuing to talk about the colonization of Georgia and the creation of Georgia as a colony.  Also, eighth graders will be completing the Exploration and Colonization review sheet, the Oglethorpe vs. Marx journal entry, and the Early Georgia Laws Activity. Lastly, 8th graders will be presenting their Exploration and Colonization Menu Project.

7th Grade: All seventh grade classes will be continuing to talk about the history of the Middle East.  This week, students will learn about the Iran-Iraq War and the Persian Gulf War. Also, students will collaborate on the Venn Diagram of Iran and Iraq and the History of the Middle East review sheet. Lastly, students will present their Middle East History Menu project, which they have been collaborating on in class.

6th Grade: All sixth grade classes will be finishing up talking about the Economy, Government, Cultures, and Geography of Europe. We will go over the answers to the review sheet in class. Also students will take the test on Tuesday (Silver) and Wednesday (Blue).  Also, students will present their Environmental Problems of Europe IRA.

Additionally, 6th and 8th grade classes will receive their 2nd historical fiction novels this week in class.
