An Overview of Executive Functioning Disorder
Executive Functioning…..the central processes involved in giving organization and order to our actions within the frontal cortex. (If the brain is the symphony, the Frontal Lobe is the Maestro.)
Do you have a child who seems incredibly lazy? Intentionally forgetful? Absolutely unmotivated? Deliberately late? Do you feel like a broken record? Do you have a student chronically distracted? Do you have a student who knows the information but cannot communicate it to you in a logical sequence?
This workshop will discuss this old disorder which is now receiving a great deal
of research and attention.
The last few minutes will be reserved for your questions and discussion.
Sunday, October 24th , 2-4pm Fellowship Hall
An Overview of Impulse Control Disorders and ADHD
Is your child always acting out? Throwing things or hitting other children? Or being forgetful? Or failing to
follow through? or Struggling with staying focused?
Attention Deficit Disorder is a real and disruptive disorder which inhibits children from reaching their potential in many settings. These children, along with Impulse Control Disorders cause many people to get so frustrated with these children that they either ignore them altogether or label them as “bad”. They are neither bad or
deserving of the treatment they often times receive. We will be discussing the chemical concerns as well as the behavioral issues associated with these disorder categories.
The last few minutes will be reserved for your questions and discussion.
Sunday, November 21st , 2-4pm Fellowship Hall
CHILDHOOD UPS AND DOWNS
An Overview of Child Depression and Anxiety
Depression in children is not just a bad mood or a bad day. It is suggested that 1 out of every 33 children in the US has clinical depression. This is a true brain disorder affecting the acts, thoughts and feelings of children.
Anxiety is the fastest growing epidemic in children today. A “worried” child gets over it when the object of their worry is over. An anxious child just finds another object to be anxious over.
Although children experience the symptoms of anxiety in much the same way as
adults do, they display and react to symptoms differently.
This seminar will cover both these disorder areas and differentiate from “normal”
ups and downs in a child’s life. These disorders are many times related and
overlapping.
The last few minutes will be reserved for your questions and discussion.
