Presidential Mock Election

The following links may be used for students in Mrs. Peters' ESOL classes to vote in the 2008 YLI Mock Election.  Students will need to know the school code for Griffin Middle School (GA1737) and their US Congressional District (the link to find your US Congressional District is also listed below).  The deadline for voting is October 30 5:00 pm.

Election Poster

Since the presidential election is coming up soon, we are going to investigate what the two presidential candidates really believe about a certain topic. Your task is to create a poster about one important topic discussed in media. You can choose from the following topics:

1. A biography about Barack Obama
2. A biography about John McCain
3. Both presidential candidates view on immigration
4. Both presidential candidates view on education
5. Both presidential candidates view on the war in Iraq
6. Both presidential candidates view on health care
7. Both presidential candidates view on abortion
8. Both presidential candidates view on environment and energy
9. Both presidential candidates view on taxes
10. Both presidential candidates view on social security

1. Click on your topic and read what each candidate believes about this topic.  
2. Write down important facts about this topic/person on a separate notebook paper.
3. Write your informational text about this person. DO NOT COPY FROM THE INTERNET!!! Write in your own words. Show Mrs. Peters.
4. Create your colorful poster. Your poster needs to look like this:

5. You need the following for the poster:
   1. the person’s name
   2. a picture
   3. their political party symbol
   4. all the interesting facts you find out about the topic/person

6.      Find 5 words you are using in your poster and make a vocabulary list explaining what they mean. Add the list to you poster.
